This article applies to:

D series with all laser modules.

If you find the laser module fails to move on either or both of the X-axis and Y-axis gantry, please refer to this article to troubleshoot.

#1 Check the fasteners

If the X-axis belt is fitted loosely into the fastener, the laser module won't move on the X-axis with the belt.

  1. Turn the machine upside down.
  2. Check if the belt is fitted properly into the fasteners, as shown in the photo below.

#2 Check the cable connection

The X-axis motor cable connects the main control board and the motor. The connector on the motherboard is red, whereas on the motor, it is white.

  1. Check if the motor cable is loose on both ends.
  2. If yes, unplug and reseat the motor cable until it is properly plugged in.

#3 Check the motor cable and the pins

  1. Inspect the motor cable for any signs of damage and replace it if necessary.
  2. Check the following pins for damage or bending:
    1. Pins in the red port on the main control board.
    2. Pins in the white port on the motor.
    3. If any issues are found, consider replacing either the main control board or the motor.

#4 Check the firmware

If your D1 machine is somehow installed with D1 Pro's firmware, the motor will be locked.

  1. Check if the indicator near the start button on the front plate is off when the machine is powered on.
  2. Open XCS, click on the icon in the top right corner, and navigate to "Basic info" -> "Firmware version" to check if it displays as empty.
  3. If either of the above indicates "yes", please refer to this guide to upgrade or install the correct version for your machine.

#5 Check the X-axis motor or the main control board

  1. If the laser module moves properly along the Y-axis, perform a cross-test by swapping cables to determine whether the issue lies with the X-axis motor or the port on the main control board.
  • Exchange the X-axis and Y-axis motor cables.
  • Launch XCS. Click "Process" in the lower right corner.
  • Click "Framing" or the four arrows to move the laser module front and back, left and right.

  1. After swapping the cables, control the laser module to move again and verify the following:
  • If it only moves on the Y-axis, the X-axis motor and motor cable may need to be replaced.
  • If it fails to move on the Y-axis, the X-axis port on the motherboard may be faulty and the board needs to be replaced.
  • You can refer to the guides or the video tutorials below to replace the faulty parts.
  • Replace the X or Y-Axis Motor

  • Replace the main control board

#1 Check the Y-axis motor cable connection

The Y-axis motor cable connects the main control board and the motor.

  • For D1, on the main control board, the port for the cable is yellow.
  • For D1 Pro, the port is white.
  1. Check if the motor cable is loose on both ends.
  2. If yes, unplug and replug the motor cable until it is properly plugged in.

#2 Check the fasteners

If the Y-axis belt is fitted loosely into the fastener, the laser module won't move on the Y-axis with the belt.

  1. Turn the machine upside down.
  2. Check if the belt is fitted correctly into the fasteners on both sides of the frame, as shown in the photo below.

#3 Check the motor cable and the pins

  1. Inspect the motor cable for any signs of damage and replace it if necessary.
  2. Check the following pins for damage or bending:
    1. Pins in the yellow port on the main control board.
    2. Pins in the port on the Y-axis motor.
    3. If any issues are found, consider replacing either the main control board or the motor.

#4 Check the Firmware

If your D1 machine is somehow installed with D1 Pro's firmware, the motor will be locked.

  1. Check if the indicator near the start button on the front plate is off when the machine is powered on.

#5 Check the Y-axis motor or the main control board

  1. If the laser module moves properly along the X-axis, perform a cross-test by swapping cables to determine whether the issue lies with the Y-axis motor or the port on the main control board.
  • Exchange the X-axis and Y-axis motor cables.
  • Launch XCS. Click "Process" in the lower right corner.
  • Click "Framing" or the four arrows to move the laser module front and back, left and right.

  1. After swapping the cables, control the laser module to move again and verify the following:
  • If it only moves on the X-axis, the Y-axis motor and motor cable may need to be replaced.
